Following
a ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday 8 May 2003, construction
work has now officially started on a new, multi-million pound,
hi-tech production facility for UK company, Comyn Ching & Co (Solray)
Ltd - the market leading manufacturer of Solray Radiant Panels.
The ceremony
took place at the 3 acre development site in Gorseinon, near Swansea,
and was attended by directors from Comyn Ching & Co, June Burtonshaw
(Lord Mayor of Swansea) and a host of other dignitaries, representing
the Welsh Assembly, the Welsh Development Agency and the Gorseinon
Development Trust. Alastair Comyn Ching, Managing Director at
Comyn Ching & Co hosted the event and also took the symbolic first
step in the construction process by cutting the first sod.
"This is another
very special day in the long and proud history of Comyn Ching"
said Alastair Comyn Ching speaking at the event. "We have chosen
the Swansea area as the home for our new factory because of the
many advantages it will bring our business. It will provide us
with excellent transport and communication links across the whole
UK, access to a highly skilled and reliable engineering workforce
from the local area and a first-class manufacturing facility,
purpose-built to our specification and with plenty of spare capacity
for extra development to meet our future expansion plans.""We
are delighted to initiate the building of the factory today" he
added. "And, we are especially pleased that our partners in this
development who have contributed so much into making our dream
a reality - the Lord Mayor, Ron Slater and Mike Rees at the Welsh
Development Agency, the Welsh Assembly and the Gorseinon Regeneration
Trust - are here with us today to share in its significance."
Located on
the Garngoch Industrial Estate, the modern, single-storey Comyn
Ching & Co factory will cover an area of 28,000 ft2. The factory
will create up to 40 local jobs and will feature the biggest,
most advanced stud welding plant in the UK, panel assembly, testing
and quality assessment areas, a dedicated powder coating plant,
parts storage space, offices and extensive loading and unloading
facilities.
Contractors
on the project are Dean & Dyball and the architects are WS Atkins.
Local companies are being used extensively in the sourcing and
supply of materials used in the construction of the factory.
