Comyn Ching & Co are helping pupils and staff feel the warmth as well as the safety and spatial benefits of Solray Radiant Panels recently installed as part of a major construction project at Antrim Grammar School in Northern Ireland.

Antrim Grammar School is a successful co-educational Grammar school for pupils aged 11-18. Founded in 1974 on a 70 acre site, the School has 730 pupils, and is currently being extended and refurbished as part of a £7 million development project funded by the Department of Education for the NEELB. This project, which has just reached the completion of the second and final phase, includes the provision of new Sports Hall, Dining Area, Classrooms and Home Economics Suite. Solray Radiant Panels have been specified for the Sports Hall and Home Economics Suite to run on the School's low temperature hot water heating system, delivering discrete warmth throughout the buildings.

Installed within the ceiling in both areas, the Solray Radiant Panels ensure on energy efficient heating solution as well as providing a safety conscious and space saving alternative to conventional wall mounted radiators for the project. The location of the ceiling panels, which are well beyond the reach of children and staff alike, allows the maximum amount of space to be used in the Sports Hall, eliminating the risk of children injuring themselves by accidental collision with wall mounted radiators during activities. In the Home Economics Suite, the ceiling installed Solray panels free up the available wall space, allowing kitchen appliances, worktops and cabinets to be installed and used to maximum advantage.

Greville Neill of Williams & Shaw, the Project's mechanical and electrical consultants explains: "We chose Solray panels simply because they were the best product for the job; our specification was to install a heating system that was not only economical but also safe and capable of maximising the space available in key areas. Solray panels have provided an excellent solution to this problem; the panels are discreet and out of reach, as well as being energy efficient."

Installation of the Solray panels was carried out by the Litton Group.

Solray is the market leading brand in Radiant Panels with its products featuring in a vast number of schools and other public sector projects currently taking place across the country. They are versatile enough for completely unobtrusive wall, floor or ceiling installation and can be used with low or medium temperature hot water, steam or electricity, thus minimising the pipework runs, boxing, controls and other components that would normally be required.

Originally developed by Comyn Ching more than 70 years ago, Solray Radiant Panels have evolved through the generations into modern, highly efficient, state of the art designs. They can be tailor-made to the highest standards of quality and manufactured to suit specific project requirements at the company's London-based design and production facility.
